When students enter the Middle School at MBBC, they have the opportunity to study Japanese and Spanish in Language B. Students will study each language for a semester.

Students are introduced to the Japanese language and culture. They begin learning the script of Hiragana, with some exposure to Katakana and Kanji. Students will learn to speak about themselves in Japanese and present their Jikoshokai (self introduction) to the class. Enjoyment and a love of learning a second language is fostered through hands on activities, student led discussions and exploration of culture. During Term 2, students will learn vocabulary appropriate to speaking about their spare time, entertainment and weekend plans and phone calls. They will spend some time investigating Japanese past times and how Japanese teenagers enjoy spending their time. They identify how the experiences of Japanese teenagers are the same and different to their own.
