The Primary School Religious Education program is implemented during a 30 minute lesson, once a week. This lesson is usually taken by the School Chaplain and involves some biblical story telling and related workbook activities. The Prep and Year 1 students are introduced to the Christian Faith through well known characters and bible stories. Students from Year 2 to 6 learn about the key components and themes of the Bible and Christian belief. They are encouraged to apply their learning to their own lives.
Religious Education in the Middle School provides an opportunity for students to gain an understanding of the main aspects of the Christian faith and to consider their own beliefs and values through reflection, reasoning and discussion. The program is usually delivered by the School Chaplain in a weekly 45 minute lesson.
The Middle School Religious Education program is broken into three components that are covered over the course of each year. Throughout the first semester students look at “Basic Christianity” which gives them an overview of the main aspects of the Christian Faith. They also gain an appreciation of the key aspects of Christianity including what is the church, what is prayer and understanding the Bible. During Term 3 the students study a book from the Bible to increase their understanding of the Scripture in its cultural settings and discover its application to their present day lives. In Term 4 the students look at faith perspectives in the media. This is done by watching a secular movie and discussing the spiritual messages and aspects in the film. As a student progresses through the year levels the perspective varies, knowledge and concepts are developed and age appropriate issues are raised.
Religious Education in the Senior Years continues to build on the foundation of Christian understanding developed during the Middle Years. The program is usually delivered by the School Chaplain in a weekly 45 minute lesson.
The Senior School Religious Education program helps students to see Christianity in the context of the beliefs and behaviours in the world around them. They will also have the opportunity to develop life skills and understandings based on biblical principles. As in Middle School they will again study a book of the bible in Term 3 and consider its cultural context and modern day application. Faith perspectives in the media will be investigated, analysed and discussed in light of biblical understanding. As students progresses through the year levels the perspectives vary, knowledge and concepts are developed and age appropriate issues are raised.
