Primary School (Prep – Year 6)

The Preparatory (Prep) Year:
a boy’s first year.
In Moreton Bay Boys’ College Preparatory year, a foundation is laid for a committed and capable student, and a confident and disciplined adult.
The boys’ “Prep Year” program is delivered in an environment which promotes cooperation, sharing, positive relationships and teamwork. Learning is supported by a teacher and full time teacher assistant: committed to assisting our young people to ‘improve themselves’ rather than ‘beat their competitors’.
Our Prep school operates five days a week, ensuring the boys are well prepared for the expectations of Year 1.
The Prep Year curriculum is built around five key areas:
1. Social and personal learning
2. Health and physical learning
3. Language learning and communication
4. Early mathematical understandings
5. Active learning processes
Primary School Years 1-6
Our Primary School students participate in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, in which we seek to foster a positive attitude to learning in all our boys. We realise that a sound basis and eagerness for learning in Primary school will assist the boys’ development and achievement in their later school and adult years.
Taught from our specially designed, sustainable campus in Brisbane, the Primary School has distinct developmental phases with a movement towards greater specialist teacher involvement from Year 5 to cater for the changing needs of the boys as they mature in their later school years.
The Primary School learning areas throughout Years 1-6 are:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Studies of society and the environment
- Information, communication and design technology
- Cultural, visual and performing arts
- Health and physical education, sport and recreation
- Religious education, personal development and growth
- Spanish (Years 2-6)
