Year 1

Mr Tait helping us fly our 'QANTAS' planes

Welcome to Year 1 at Moreton Bay Boys’ College

Year 1 is a time when the boys undertake a variety of new experiences. They develop skills in working with others inside and outside of the classroom, as well as encountering new concepts on a regular basis.

Year 1 is when the boys develop their literacy skills and excitedly begin to see themselves as proficient readers and writers. In Year 1 they begin their first ‘formal’ mathematics. They solve addition and subtraction algorithms, measure the length, volume, area and mass of objects and record data independently in tables and graphs.

The boys in Year 1 also enjoy opportunities to develop their social skills, working with their peers inside the classroom on academic tasks and then outside of the classroom when playing at break times. Time spent with buddies in other classes also provides great social interactions and an opportunity to have ‘brotherly’ relationships.

By the end of Year 1 the boys have made significant progress, both academically and socially, and have developed into independent and enthusiastic learners ready to encounter the remainder of their school career.
