Year 5

Year 5 is an exciting year in the College. It is a time when the boys are leaving the structure of the Lower School and yet not quite ready to venture into the Middle School. It is a year of adventure as students take on a Noosa Eco Adventure for Year 5 Camp. It is a year of change as they learn to be more independent and take responsibility for their own learning. Therefore, our focus is consolidating learning from the Early Years, extending basic skills and most importantly fostering a love of life-long learning through dynamic investigations. A highlight for all Year 5 students is participation in weekly 4-6 Team Time, fostering positive relationships, building character and developing that great MBBC spirit.

In addition to core literacy and numeracy work, boys undertake six exciting Units of Inquiry capturing science, history, geography and technology knowledge and skills. They build on their artistic endeavours with Visual Art and Music, each learning a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument as part of a wonderful musical curricular opportunity. They prepare to engage with the world by continuing their language learning in Spanish. They build the physical skills and healthy approach to life through Health and Physical education and the chance to participate in competitive sport with cricket, soccer, basketball, touch and tennis on offer in addition to the swimming, cross country and athletics programs.

Action-packed Year 5 is a great preparation for the busy years yet to come at MBBC!
