Year 6 Exhibition unit

16 May 2012

In their final year of PYP (Primary Years Program), students undertake an Exhibition Unit.  For Moreton Bay Boys College students this happens in Year 6.  This year will mark our inaugural Exhibition Unit, an event about which we are all very excited.

The purpose of the Exhibition Unit is to provide an opportunity for the students to showcase their understandings and abilities developed throughout their time in the Primary Years Program.  Participation in this Unit will lead to a transition into our Middle Years Program and will stand the boys in good stead for their Personal Project to be undertaken in Year 10.

The students will conference regularly with a Mentor throughout the unit.  The mentor’s role is that of a guide to ensure that the boys remain on task and on track and to offer any advice or insights which may prove helpful for their investigations.

The five essential elements of the PYP will be refined and displayed throughout the unit and will again form the foundations through which the boys will carry out their inquiry.

The Unit of Inquiry will culminate in an evening at which the students will communicate their work to the College community.  They will be able to articulate the journey they have traveled throughout their inquiry and which led them to their understanding of the Central Idea.  They will show their understanding of Concepts and demonstrate their Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes.  Finally they will communicate their chosen Action developed from their understandings.

A parent information evening will be held for the Year 6 parents on Tuesday 29 May in the lecture theatre to outline this year’s Unit of Inquiry and to give more information.  Further newsletter articles will also give further information and details about the Exhibition Unit.

We hope that all in our College community will join in celebrating this milestone event in PYP.
