Celebrating Language

Spanish teacher, Jenny Bond and Japanese teacher, Chauntelle Pantazacos assisted Head of Primary Joel Weekes with organising International Mindedness Day early in the year. This was a fun opportunity for students to explore various cultures around the world and partake in some educational activities. International Mindedness Day will be even better next year.

Some of our top Spanish and Japanese pupils were invited to attend the annual MLTAQ Speech Contest held on the Gold Coast in Term Three. A special mention to the 19 boys from years 4-9 who delivered Spanish speeches. Also to Tristan Winning, George Summerscales, Gil Griffiths, Benjamin Greasley, Liam Watson and Jaafar Jabur for their excellent Japanese speeches. Congratulations to James Cumming from year 4 for receiving 3rd place, Vinney Poral from year 5 for receiving 2nd place and to Hunter Barrett from year 5 for also receiving 2nd place! A great achievement. We can’t wait to do it all again in 2017!

Year 7 students have enjoyed their first year studying both Japanese and Spanish and have now made the decision of which language to continue on with for the next two years. Year 7 boys have been lucky enough to experience learning language with the assistance of Education Perfect website, Language Perfect, which has been an exciting and motivating tool for the boys.

Spanish has also now secured a subscription to Linguascope website. This will be a fun way for students to practise vocabulary both at school and at home.

Japan trip 2017 Information night 23/11/16

Our Japanese department has thoroughly enjoyed building a relationship with our new buddy school in Hiroshima, Japan. A group of Japanese boys from Hiroshima Johoku School stayed with our MBBC families in Term 3, attending school with host-students. A big thank you to the MBBC boys and families who hosted Japanese students. It was a great week!

We are now organising our Japan Tour for 2017 and will be staying at Hiroshima Johoku in June – the information evening will be held on Wednesday night 23rd November. A very exciting trip for the boys to look forward to!

We have enjoyed celebrating languages with you at MBBC this year!
